Following the runaway success of their first recovery project this summer, the Dartmoor Pony Training Centre is running a second project this autumn. Participants will build on the horse handling skills they learned during the summer such as gentling semi-wild ponies, leading and moving horses around obstacles. They will also be working on personal development such as mind-body awareness, learning how to regulate emotions and how to become a trustworthy partner for a horse.
New members are more than welcome to apply for a place on the three-day training project as the first group will act as mentors to support those without horse experience. Once participants have gained in horse handling skills and confidence they will have an opportunity to apply to become working volunteers with the Training Centre, which has recently relocated to land just outside Ashburton at Buckland-in-the-Moor.
All equipment and lunch will be provided on the days. Transport will be provided from Walnut Lodge at 10am each day.
