Carers from across Torbay are being invited to attend a host of events this June for some well-deserved fun and relaxation – all timed to coincide with National Carers Week 2017 (12 – 18 June).
Organised by Torbay and South Devon NHS Foundation Trust and other local organisations, carers will be able to take some time-out to enjoy various events held throughout the week.
Carers Week is an annual campaign to celebrate the essential, and often unsung, role of unpaid carers. Thirteen events are taking place across Torbay, with an emphasis on carers having some time for themselves.
The events are open to unpaid Carers across Torbay. There will be an opportunity for Carers to take part in a whole host of activities from pampering sessions, flying a virtual Boeing 737, playing pitch and putt, visiting the houses of parliament among many other exciting opportunities. Events available to book during the week include:
• Virtual Jet Centre – Boeing 737 Flight Simulator
• Pitch and putt golf
• Guided tour of the Houses of Parliament
• Local literary links and lunch
• ‘Just Jhoom’ – Dance class
• Family history with Ancestry.com
• Design and paint your own scarf
• Relax and unwind – Carers Aid and Brixham Carers Centre
• Taste of success – Healthy Lifestyles snack stand
• Torre Abbey Treasure Hunt, and garden visit
Torbay and South Devon NHS Foundation Trust’s Carer Services Coordinator, Natalie Townsend said: “The theme this year is ‘Building Carer Friendly Communities’; communities that support Carers to look after their loved ones, while recognising that they are individuals with needs of their own.
“It is always wonderful to see unpaid carers relaxing and enjoying a day out, it is so important that we recognise our unpaid carers and provide them with opportunities like this to take time-out from the support they provide.
“We also hope that Carers Week will help to attract carers who are not yet known to us, so that we can help them to access the support that is available.
“We are looking forward to welcoming as many unpaid carers as possible to these events. Please do contact us as soon as possible to book your place as some of the events are filling up fast!”
The closing date to sign up for these events is Friday 5 May 2017. Places are allocated on a first come, first served basis. To apply please complete the Carers Week application form, available from Signposts for Carers on 01803 666620 or go online here: www.torbayandsouthdevon.nhs.uk/uploads/signposts-spring-2017-torbay-carers-week-form.pdf.
